Areas of Focus

We invest in three core areas, balancing immediate community relief with long-term systemic change, while continuing to champion arts and culture.

    Providing direct aid to individuals and strengthening organizations that alleviate poverty through housing and hunger relief programs

  • Global Justice 

    Building towards lasting peace globally by advancing human rights

  • Arts & Culture

    Championing freedom of expression, diverse voices, and cultural access by supporting artists, institutions, and advocacy organizations

Grantmaking

  • We prefer to make multi-year grants to help our grantees plan for the long-term.

  • Though we provide support across many regions nationally and internationally, we focus our direct service grants in Iowa where the foundation has its roots, as well as Washington, D.C. and the San Francisco Bay Area, where we are growing our family legacy.

  • While we're open to establishing new partnerships consistent with our values, we work with leaders who represent diverse voices and have strong track records.

  • We appreciate organizations with long-term visions for transformation in its many forms and who simultaneously focus on impact and clear plans for achieving it through practical change.
